GET HELP

If you or someone you support is at risk of immediate serious harm, you should contact the Police on 999. For non-emergency situations, you can contact them at 101.

 

Sources of help, information, and advice include:

  • National Domestic Abuse Helpline: This free helpline is open 24 hours a day, in confidence: 0808 2000 247. You can also chat with them online, live, Monday through Friday, 3 pm—10 pm.

  • National LGBT+ Domestic Abuse Helpline: Emotional & practical support for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and trans (LGBT) people experiencing domestic abuse. Open Monday to Friday 10:00 am – 5:00 pm and Wednesday to Thursday 10:00 am – 8:00 pm – 0800 999 5428

  • Samaritans: a charity aimed at providing emotional support to anyone in emotional distress, struggling to cope, or at risk of suicide. They have a free phone open 24/7 – 116 123.

  • Rights of Women: A charity that provides women with the legal advice and information they need to understand and use the law and their legal rights. They run advice lines that provide women with vital, free, and confidential legal advice. Find out more information here.

  • FLOWS: FLOWS, which stands for Finding Legal Options for Women Survivors, is a legal support service designed to help protect women against domestic abuse.

  • Liberty: Liberty’s Human Rights Information Line provides free legal information in response to public law and human rights law questions within England and Wales. They cannot provide specific legal advice on an ongoing legal case but will do their best to explain the legal background of your situation and offer some practical next steps. You can call them on 0800 988 8177, Mondays and Thursdays from 6 pm to 8 pm and Tuesdays from 12 pm to 2 pm.

  • Citizens Advice: Citizens Advice provides free, independent, and confidential legal advice and can help you find a solicitor. To receive advice, contact your local Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB). You can find your local CAB using their website or by calling their advice line: Wales 03444 77 20 20, England 03444 111 444 (Calls to this service cost the same as calling 01 and 02 numbers)

  • Law Centres: Law Centres provide a free and independent professional legal service to people who live or work in their area. You can find your nearest law center details via the Law Centres Federation website.

  • Law Society: The Law Society has an online directory of law firms and solicitors, which can help you find a lawyer. They do not provide legal advice themselves.

  • Victim Support: Provide free and confidential support 24 /7 for people affected by crime and traumatic events, regardless of whether you have reported the crime to the police. Free and confidential support line – 08 08 16 89 111

  • Support Through Court: A charity dedicated to providing free, independent assistance to people facing proceedings without legal representation
